Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What kind of sites are available for internships?

Currently we have an ever-expanding variety of sites in different career fields from local nonprofits to corporations, banks, government offices and some healthcare settings. We are open to additional sites you may suggest if they can meet the requirements of the program. We also have remote internship opportunities!

Q: How many hours will I have to work?

Five hours per week during an average, non-holiday week (this counts as your G block class time)

Q: How will I be graded?

There are a variety of journal assessments, exit requirements, group meetings and a final presentation. We also take into account the feedback we receive from hosts at the sites where you work.

Q: Can I get paid?

Because you are earning school credit you should not be paid for your first five hours of work per week. Some sites may choose to pay you for additional hours per week. Some sites may be required to pay you for insurance purposes. NOTE: We are working on establishing a scholarship fund for those students who need it. More info to come.

Q: How does having an internship look to colleges I may be interested in?

A lot of colleges are excited to see that students have extended themselves beyond traditional classrooms and push themselves to learn to do real life work, develop perseverance, and foster interpersonal skills.

Q: Will I be doing something “real” at the internship site or only photocopying and getting coffee all day?

We cannot promise you will never be assigned menial tasks, but in all the sites that we develop we make sure you are doing real and meaningful work and we ask the hosts to give you work related to the mission of their organization.

Q: What kind of credit do I get for doing an internship?

If you complete all the requirements, you get Honors level credit for one class (not associated with any given department).

Q: How does my internship affect other activities, e.g., sports?

Many of our internships offer flexible hours, but you will need to consider carefully when choosing an internship and determining your time commitments. Students have reported that although it can be a challenge to juggle both an internship and sports, they have managed to do so and it was worth it.
