Responsibilities

Intern responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate motivation and responsibility in order to be selected as an Intern.

  • Attend required Internship orientation at AHS.

  • Provide their own transportation to the worksite.

  • Work 5 hrs./week at the worksite; we understand that in some cases 8 hrs. is required.

  • Dress in conservative “business casual,” unless worksite requires formal dress.

  • Attend sessions with the AHS Internship Director on a regular basis to discuss policy, procedure, work at the site, etc.

  • In addition to duties at the worksite, develop a project approved by the on-site intern supervisor that is of use to the host organization. Interns are required to present a substantial project end product at the AHS Internship Expo

Supervisor responsibilities (some flexibility is possible – just ask):

  • If the Intern works more than 5 hours per week you may pay for the extra hours.

  • Plan in advance a practical Day 1 orientation for the Intern including worksite layout, your expectations (e.g., communication, initiative, requesting support).

  • Participate in one worksite meeting with the Intern and AHS Internship Director about the Intern’s responsibilities and project.

  • Review and approve the Intern’s project, and offer occasional guidance to ensure its usefulness to your organization and completion.

  • Complete a brief online form every 4-6 weeks about the Intern’s performance (form is checkboxes with optional comments – takes 5-10 mins. to complete).

  • Please remember the AHS intern is a teen – wonderful and responsible – and sometimes in need of more encouragement and supervision than an adult.
